Offer Description

We are seeking for a highly motivated and talented candidate to pursue a fully-funded PhD position in Brussels as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network "NERVSPAN" (visit https://www.excitingworms.eu/nervspan/index.php for more details). The NERVSPAN network encompasses 10 European partners aiming to elucidate the transitions that occur within a nervous system during its postembryonic life. C. elegans presents an ideal model for a comprehensive investigation due to its relatively simple nervous system. Yet it undergoes significant postembryonic developmental changes in terms of gene expression, connectivity, functionality and behavioral traits.

The PhD project will focus on the study of presynaptic function and neuromodulation within Patrick Laurent's team in Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Our research approaches encompass classical genetics, transgenesis, CRISPR, proximity labeling, biochemistry, and advanced microscopy techniques such as photoactivation (visit: https://celegans.ulb.ac.be/wordpress/ ).

We invite applications from candidates holding a Master's degree (or its equivalent) in fields such as biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related disciplines. We are particularly interested in candidates who are deeply passionate about cell biology and neuroscience research and possess excellent analytical and communication skills.

Our team and the Nervspan network will give you opportunities to work in a supportive, multidisciplinary, and dynamic research setting; you will benefit of an extensive training program including workshops, courses, and secondments, all designed to enhance your research capabilities and professional skills. This represents an exceptional opportunity for a talented and ambitious individual to advance their research expertise, acquire international exposure, and boost their career prospects.

The program offers financial support to cover 4 years of PhD full time research, including living allowances, mobility grants, and research-related expenses.

As per MSCA regulations, applicants should not have resided in the country of their prospective host lab for more than 12 months in the three years immediately preceding the call deadline. To apply, please submit your curriculum vitae, a cover letter detailing your motivations and relevant experiences, and the contact information for two referees to [email protected] and [email protected] (Network Coordinator).
