The Department of Transport and Regional Economics (TPR) in the Faculty of Business and economics is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Inland navigation economics.

Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation of a PhD thesis in the field of transport economics with a special focus on Inland navigation. The PhD project is linked to the Novimove project, in which novel approaches (smart navigation, new concepts to handle container barges in deep sea ports) to optimize the container inland navigation are being develop and evaluated. The scope of the research is on the Rhine Alpine corridor, which is one of the main TEN-T corridors in Europe.
  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for the Department of Transport and Regional Economics (TPR).

Profile

  • You hold a Master degree in transport economics or transport engineering  or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
  • You can demonstrate excellent study results.
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision .
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies .
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.

What we offer

  • We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed for another period, upon availability of funding.
  • The planned start date is 1 September 2021 or as soon as possible after that date.
  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
  • You will do most of your work at City Campus in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
