Summary of Duties:
The Waste Collector will drive and operate Waste trucks, roll off trucks, curb side sorter truck in a safe manner to collect University waste and recyclable materials, assist with the sorting and processing of recyclable & waste materials. Operate recycling baler, rotary paper shredder, steam treatment system and forklifts in a safe manner. Collect, process, and prepare shipments of bio waste material.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to read and write AND possession of a valid State driver’s license AND physical ability to perform heavy outdoor work.
Additional Requirements:
Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
Must have, or be able to obtain within six months of hire, a forklift certification.
Ability to operate multiple types of vehicles and equipment safely in all weather conditions and working environments.
Ability to operate large waste and recycling equipment and vehicles.
Ability to work a flexible schedule when necessary.
Ability to work collaboratively across work groups in order to deliver positive outcomes.
Willingness and ability to safely lift materials above 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience of recycling processes and commodities.
Prior experience with hazardous or potentially hazardous materials.
Operation of at least Class B vehicles with 9-15 speed manual transmissions.
