We are looking for an exceptional writer, well organized, efficient and available immediately for a part-time (20-hours a week) approximate 3-month assignment. 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Serves as a principal writer for various external recognition opportunities in the humanities, social science, medicine, or sciences, including awards, prizes, grants, and fellowships.
  • Writes and/or edits statements of research, teaching, and letters of support and nomination for faculty nominees.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Serves as a principal writer for various humanities, social science, or science-related materials produced by the Offices of University Communications and Health Science Communications, including news releases, articles for Emory publications, web pages, media advisories, tip sheets, and strategic communications plans.
  • Identifies and writes news releases and articles for publications stemming from humanities and social science-related themes and initiatives of Emory University's strategic plan.
  • Writes and/or edits humanities, social science or science-related copy for Emory Web sites.
  • Contributes content to the University Communications media team and helps coordinate coverage to serve the strategic communications needs of Emory University.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five years of professional experience in regional or national news media, university science communications, or communications for a government science agency.
  • Outstanding skills in writing, editing, interviewing, and oral presentation.
  • Must have the ability to organize, set priorities, and manage several projects at once with minimal supervision.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to write journalistically at a sophisticated level, including mastery of the English language and the possession of a well-developed news sense. 

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work.  Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
