Job Description

Conceptualizes, produces, oversees and directs all video and multimedia content for the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, working with the director and the communications and marketing team. Serves as producer for all content: meeting with clients, assessing their needs, and scheduling a timetable for delivery. Manages shooting schedules between clients, cast, crew, and locations. Serves as a creative director on set and in post-production. Maintains a flexible work schedule in order to accommodate evening and weekend shoots and travel to on-site locations for shooting. Manages a team of student videographers—including scheduling and training them in all video production and post-production. May produce work for other university departments and manage and oversee invoiced work as needed.

Essential Duties

  • Researches and develops story/program concepts. 
  • Manages and trains student videographers. 
  • Serves as producer and creative director for all video and multimedia projects. 
  • Communicates all creative ideas and decisions to student videographers and editors and works closely with communications team. 
  • Manages live event shooting, as director and lead videographer; makes technical and creative decisions regarding elements as appropriate lighting, shooting angle, placement and type of microphones, locations, use of movement and interviews. 
  • Determines content and questions for all videotaped interviews. 
  • Conducts required research such as personal interviews to obtain necessary information; plans story line and script. 
  • Determines adequate staffing needed for production and post-production; coordinates work activities of student crew during shoots and editing. 
  • Schedules production, camera and editing time. · Ensures consistency and relevancy for productions; monitors technical quality of end product. 
  • Ensures all projects maintain ASU Brand Standards. · Prepares and monitors production budget and performs post-production accounting functions. 
  • Maintains accurate records, logs and transcribes production activities.
  • Manages all videography equipment. 
  • Tests all equipment to determine technical quality of recording, audio and lighting apparatus prior to operation in the field. 
  • Oversees the security, operation and maintenance of equipment utilized in shooting and editing. 
  • Tests new equipment for purchase consideration; recommends purchase of supplies and equipment. 
  • Able to work independently and as part of a larger team.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Radio/Television, Film, Fine Arts or related field and four (4) years experience operating video cameras and editing equipment; OR,Eight (8) years experience operating video cameras and editing equipment; OR,Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

  • Experience in visualizing and shooting concepts effectively. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of broadcasting rules and regulations. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of broadcasting production techniques. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management concepts, practices and methods. 
  • Experience in production and editing. Ability to effectively communicate. 
  • Experience in managing and leading a creative team. 
  • Able to direct calibration and maintenance of equipment.
  • Evidence of Leadership Skills

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%). Activities may require location work which may occur in adverse weather conditions, interior or exterior settings which may include rugged conditions; fragile electronic equipment transported both manually and with assistance of portage devices; operation of video and photographic equipment may be handheld for extended periods with some equipment posing hazardous conditions during operation and set-up. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%). Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
