ROLE of the POSITION

Reporting to the senior director for brand content in the UNLV Division of Integrated Marketing & Branding, the multimedia content specialist helps foster long-term interest for the university and support for its initiatives by turning its key stakeholders into informed brand ambassadors. This is done primarily through the creation of compelling brand content for the university's owned, organic and paid communication platforms.

The multimedia content specialist is a strong visual storyteller who understands how to develop marketing and editorial content to support brand strategy and communication goals. They must be able to flex between media platforms and styles as appropriate to the story and adapt to emerging trends and technologies. The position must work collaboratively with marketing, editorial and social media content producers; unit communications and academic program directors; and faculty, staff, student, alumni and donor subjects.

They must operate with a high level of creativity and technical mastery; successfully plan and organize production details; employ problem-solving skills and institutional knowledge to overcome challenges; and be organized and dedicated to best practices in digital asset management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

Required Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Professional experience as a visual content producer in journalism, social media, advertising/marketing agency, institutional/corporate communications, or commercial studio setting
  • College-level coursework or professional training in journalism, film, art, and/or design
  • A portfolio that demonstrates proficiency producing visual content in a variety of styles (editorial, marketing, corporate) and communications media

Required Knowledge:

  • Advanced technical and creative knowledge in video production, including lighting, composition, and editing techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of video animation and compositing using Adobe After Effects and image generation with at least one platform(s) of choice (such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and practical effects such as hand drawing, paper crafts, painting, etc.)
  • Highly proficient in computing equipment, services, and software related to video, audio, and graphics production, including Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, etc.), and popular social media platforms
  • Demonstrated knowledge of video cameras, lenses, lighting, sound, and teleprompter equipment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Digital Asset Management systems and understanding of system structure, taxonomy, metadata
  • Good grasp of branding, marketing, social media, journalism, web, graphic design and/or public relations fields
  • Good command of writing skills and creative storytelling techniques

Required Skills:

  • Solid graphic design, motion graphics production, and compositing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality video in a variety of styles and under various conditions
  • Able to pitch ideas, take and give creative direction, and adapt to suggestions and redirection
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship, and teamwork skills; able to develop campus relationships and build engagement with subjects
  • Resourceful and agile; able to predict potential challenges and troubleshoot issues
  • Effective time-management and multitasking skills
  • Organized, detailed and process-oriented
  • Ability to provide coaching and direction to talent, clients, and other workers during planning, production and post production
  • Effective in documenting and explaining processes and training others

Required Abilities:

  • Able to work flexible schedule and/or extended hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Able to work in fast-paced environment under deadline pressure
  • Able to lift/move heavy equipment required for film/photo production, carry camera on shoulder, stand/walk for long period of time occasionally outdoors in high heat.
  • Ability and desire to continually learn new techniques and processes
  • Able to occasionally drive with equipment for off-campus productions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor's degree in journalism, film, art, and/or design or related field from a regionally accredited college or university. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Experience producing communication products in higher education setting
  • Experience mentoring entry-level/student content producers
  • Experience using with project management systems (Asana, Monday, Airtable, etc.)

Preferred Knowledge:

  • Understanding of higher education admissions marketing

Preferred Skills:

  • Graphic design and motion graphics production
