Description of Work Unit | The CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) exists to provide exceptional veterinary care and service to the community while educating the next generation of veterinarians at a tertiary level teaching hospital. The Small Animal Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) is an integral part of the VTH providing 24-hour, exceptional medical care to patients needing hospitalization for specialized management and outpatient recovery services for same-day procedures. This is a growing service that provides hospital care to all small animal areas of the hospital, supports teaching/guidance for veterinary students, is a medical facility for veterinary research, and is a public animal health care center for exotic, large and small animals. |
Position Summary | This position’s responsibilities describe a fully operational Veterinary Technology IV. This position operates independently in performing a full range of operational and clinical responsibilities. The work requires the use of discretion, creativity, strategic planning and collaboration with all VTH small animal services and directors office management. The position maintains and supervises enough FTE Veterinary Technicians and support staff to maintain a fully functional Unit, generally 11-14 FTE’s ranging from HCS Trainee, VT I, I & III levels. Maintains a group of student hourlies as needed to augment staffing coverage. |
Minimum Qualifications | An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in veterinary/animal health technology AND four years of experience assisting in animal surgery, administering anesthesia to animals and/or performing veterinary surgery. |
Substitutions | Two years of experience as defined by the department will substitute for each year of required education. A bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in veterinary/animal health technology will substitute for the associate’s degree and, at the agency’s discretion, two, three, or four years of experience. |
