Description of Work Unit
Provides year around landscaping services, care, renovation, repair and maintenance of all grounds at Colorado State University and its auxiliaries.
The Grounds Maintenance Department within Facilities Management is dedicated to the maintaining and providing a safe, functional and aesthetically-pleasing exterior environment for the students, faculty, staff and visitors to the University
Position Summary
This position functions as supervisor and provides technical expertise for the turfgrass maintenance and sports field preparation and maintenance operations of the Grounds section. This position maintains division one artificial and natural athletic sports fields and the support of multiple athletic events.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate the following in the work duties section of the applciation:
  • Three years of progressively responsible grounds care and maintenance of artificial and natural athletic sports fields.
  • Must have possession of a current valid State of Colorado driver’s license

  • 2 years+ of sports turf specific maintenance experience
  • Colorado Department of Agriculture Qualified Supervisor Pesticide Applicators License (or ability to obtain within 6 months of date of hire) with 206 Turf Pest Control
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and team-player
  • Knowledge of large-scale irrigation systems; ability to troubleshoot and make necessary repairs
  • Experience providing snow removal services on sports fields and hard surfaces
  • Sports Field Manager Certification from the Sports Field Management Association

Essential Job Duties

Duty/Responsibility
Function as supervisor over classified grounds maintenance personnel.
Provides performance plans, reviews and evaluations for all subordinate
employees. Plan, and coordinate work activities for employees. Establish
work standards, oversees and approves work orders and employee time
entry. Monitor progress, timeliness and correctness of work product ’and
reports to Grounds
Manager. Hire, train and ensure correct and up-to-date documentation for
subordinate employees. Ensure compliance with Facilities Management
policies and procedures and State of Colorado Personnel System rules and
procedures.

Plan, organize and direct all maintenance, preparation and event support on
intercollegiate and intramural athletic fields. Campus resource for
fertilization, and turf grass renovation projects.

Provide and ensure training and safety guidelines for operation, calibration, application, mixing and storage of horticulture chemicals and equipment.
