The Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a full-time Therapist (Instructor) at the JDC.

Key Responsibilities:

The Therapist at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus JDC will join a team of mental health providers treating community members requiring a higher level of care. The primary responsibilities of this clinician are to run groups in the IOP program (focusing on psychoeducation, skills development, and experiential), provide brief as-needed check-in appointments of 30 minutes or less, and conduct once-a-month group to provide to support systems of individuals participating in the IOP program. In addition, the therapist will see out patients in the JDC, ranging from children/adolescents to adults.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Provides multiculturally sensitive behavior health assessment, triage, case management, and individual and group psychotherapy
  • Collaborate with other mental health faculty and staff in the provision of mental health and wellness care.
  • Manage details of insurance including authorization and peer to peer reviews for denials.
  • Chart patient visits using an electronic medical record.
  • Assist in discharge planning, including identifying community placement.
  • Develop programmatic benchmarks and outcomes of effectiveness.
  • Participate in quality and performance assessment projects.
  • Participate in the development of and administration of group programs including skills development, experiential activities, and mindfulness
  • Participate in other programs and service development.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite at the JDC in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

The ranks are based on how many years a candidate has been licensed and if they want to pursue the promotions track. If applying as an unlicensed provider, the expectation is that the applicant will seek licensure within 6 months of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor or Senior Instructor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Instructor:

  • 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum degree qualifications: Master's Degree in Social Work.
  • Eligible to be licensed as a clinical social worker in Colorado

Senior Instructor:

  • 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum degree qualifications: Master's Degree in Social Work.
  • Eligible to be licensed as a clinical social worker in Colorado.

Any hired candidate must attain their Colorado license within three months of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications (applicable for all ranks) 

  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of evidence-based treatments including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT), and Habit Reversal Training (HRT)
  • Strong clinical judgement & leadership skills
  • Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in program development and wellness
  • Professional and personal qualities to work effectively with faculty, administrators, and patients
  • Demonstration of flexibility and problem-solving 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge/skills with empirically proven therapies such as CBT, DBT, FFT. Must have skills in risk assessment, including suicide and violence risk assessment.
  • Familiarity/comfort in seeing patients with complex mood disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder, histories of trauma.
  • Must be comfortable with case management and coordination of care.
  • Must be comfortable with a combination of individual and group therapy, as well as working with families.
  • Must be efficient with time management with the ability to see many patients in a row if needed or to use time constructively for administrative or other work.
  • Must develop knowledge about step-down processes and network with community providers.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with all constituencies in the Department of Psychiatry including Departmental Chair, Program Directors, and administrative staff.
  • Should be comfortable developing wellness programs and with public speaking.
  • Self-directed and flexible.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    Instructor: $52,000 – $60,000
    Sr. Instructor: $52,000 – $60,000

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
