About the Department

The newly created Institute for Population and Precision Health (IPPH), located in the Biological Sciences Division, will integrate a wide spectrum of factors such as human health behaviors, environmental factors, social and economic factors, policies and genetic determinants of health, into studies focused on the treatment and prevention of disease, as well as the maintenance of wellness. Leveraging and integrating the University of Chicago’s considerable institutional strength in population science with research spanning diverse fields such as genetic medicine, cancer epidemiology, microbiome, and epigenomics, the Institute will have the common goal of improving human health outcomes. Another major goal of the Institute will be to develop a new multidisciplinary training program to equip researchers with emerging tools and methods to conduct precision health research within a population health framework. Our faculty lead research projects in biostatistics, epidemiology and health services research and participate in interdisciplinary teams with faculty in other departments to address complex problems in health and healthcare, in our communities and around the globe. This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.

Job Summary:

This temporary position is to support the Institute for Population and Precision Health (IPPH) outreach and enrollment efforts for our research programs in 2021. These events will occur in various locations and communities primarily on the South Side and in our University of Chicago IPPH Clinic. The primary functions of the position will be recruiting participants in our research programs, managing clinic operations, and performing physical measurements and bio-specimen collection from participants. During events, the position will also helping with set-up and tear down of tables/stations and talking to potential research participants and community partners about IPPH programming and science. The hours will not necessarily be during business hours- evenings and weekends will be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for recruitment of potential participant for our research programs via field events and phone calls.   

  • Set up and breakdown of all event stations during informational and enrollment events. That will include setting up and taking down tables, gaming stations, snack/water stations, screens, technology stations, and any other items that are used for the day.

  • Aid in enrollment for research programs. That will entail helping potential participants that have technological difficulties.

  • Assist in clinic operations which include performing the physical measurements and collecting bio-specimens from participants.

  • Learn and understand the IPPH research programs.

  • Distribute marketing materials or set up areas to leave marketing materials to current and potential partners.

  • Perform specific protocol procedures (specimens and data management, survey/questionnaire administration and the like) required to conduct the study and retain research subjects.

  • Understands protocols and may collect information about adverse events (AEs), identified in the protocol or investigator brochure.

  • Prepares for or participate in quality assurance audits under supervision or following specific protocol procedures.

  • Participates in study-related documentation, such as protocol worksheets, procedural manuals, adverse event reports, institutional review board documents, or progress reports.

  • Performs other related work as needed.

Additional Requirements ​​
 

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma/GED required.

  • For current students, we are looking for candidates that are currently enrolled in any science or communication related field of study, though all majors are welcome to apply.

  • For graduates/non-students, we are looking for at least a year of experience in any retail, research, or customer service related position.

Experience:

  • Any clinic or lab experience, patient facing experience, phlebotomy, retail, customer service or other healthcare field.
