Who we are
The Department of Biology at Texas A&M University is responsible for research and teaching within the vast disciplines of the biological sciences, from molecular cell biology to ecology and evolutionary biology. Our faculty perform cutting-edge research in a wide array of biological sciences in the laboratory and in the field. What we want
The Technician I is responsible for daily laboratory preps for Biology laboratory courses serving ~3000 students per semester. Help with the planning and supervising of technical operations; assists personnel involved in lab prep and oversees the quality assurance and quality control of all reagents and solutions made for laboratory experiments. What you need to know
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Education and Experience:
One year in scientific research, clinical, operational, or experiential work.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
First Aid training and CPR certification, AED training.
Responsibilities:
Lab Chemicals - Prepares solutions, weighs, measures and dispenses chemicals, labels secondary containers, prepares other lab materials.
Class Material Preparation - Setup and tear down experimental apparatus and teaching demonstrations in labs. Curates preserved specimens. Prepares dissection tissues and arranges for lab demonstrations.
Class Preparation - Laminates charts, posters and information cards used in labs and presentations. Assists staff, faculty and graduate teaching assistants as needed. Assists administrative operations as needed.
Cleaning - Cleans prep areas, labs, cold rooms, autoclaves, lab equipment. Notify supervisors of lab room maintenance needs.
Maintenance and Repair - Performs routine maintenance and repair of lab equipment. Transport departmental supplies and equipment as needed.
Exam Preparation - Setup lab practical exams for Biology 111, 112, 113, and Zoology 107.
Specimen Preparation - Maintains live organisms and cultures for lab use.
