The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for an Technician I to serve as a member of the Medical Physiology team. Job Summary: The Technician I, under general supervision, is responsible for assisting in planning research on support laboratory methods and techniques, carrying out procedures, and recording results for a series of closely controlled experiments within the Shannon Glaser Lab.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.

  • Ensure attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Experience:

  • Work in active laboratory

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Responsibilities:

Research and Analysis

  • Conducts experiments and technical procedures.
  • Identifies research problems and makes suggestions on how to resolve.
  • Research literature relating to procedures and experiments.
  • Under PI direction, modifies procedures to suit a particular research need.
  • Performs experiments utilizing molecular biology approaches.
  • Manages rodent breeding colony.
  • Performs research in animal models of liver disease.
  • Organizes data, performs data analysis, and prepares images and figures for presentations and manuscripts.
     

Laboratory Maintenance

  • Maintains laboratory equipment and schedules repairs and maintenance.

  • Performs day-to-day cleaning and organization of lab.
  • Places and receives laboratory supply orders.
     

Computing Equipment

  • Uses computer equipment for controlling equipment and compiling data.

  • Makes and records observations and measurements.
  • Assist in preparing data for publication by use of scientific materials requiring academic knowledge.

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
