Job Description

The Technical Laboratory Coordinator, under general direction, coordinates and oversees the daily operational activities of a laboratory. Ensures adherence to lab standards, safety protocols, and practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies, chemical storage, safety labeling, inventory control, and handling of laboratory waste disposal.
  • Maintains inventory supplies and records.
  • Maintains records of safety training, assigns trainings as appropriate for specific instrumentation (e.g. laser safety training), conducts training with new students on selected instrumentation, helps to resolve safety issues following regular safety inspections.
  • Oversees the maintenance of laboratory facilities, equipment, sensors, calibration, and instrumentation and arranges for repairs.
  • Coordinates with other technician staff in various laboratories at CIR in setting up new equipment, moving equipment, and operating forklifts and cranes.
  • Evaluates existing laboratory facilities and recommends improvements.
  • Assists in the development and update of instructional materials for teaching laboratories.
  • Supervises laboratory staff and students in the handling and preparation of laboratory materials.
  • Coordinates teaching assignments for laboratory sections. May teach undergraduate lab courses.
  • May supervise assigned staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:

  • Three years of related experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in laboratory operations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of computers and mainframe environments.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
