Teaching Assistant Professor of Black Feminism
Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (23008986)
Pending budgetary approval, the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor for a three-year period to begin September 1, 2024, and ending April 30, 2027, pending a successful review at the end of the first year. The course load is 3-3, and the position is outside the tenure track. Note that this year, classes begin on or after August 26, 2024. Salary and benefits are competitive. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative teacher who works at the intersections of Women of Color Feminism / Black feminism and gender/sexuality studies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in Gender and Sexuality or a related field;
- Experience in teaching at the college level as the instructor of record;
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching as evidenced by peer/supervisor reviews and/or student surveys.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the above, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach advanced courses on one or more of the following topics: Black Feminisms; Latinx Feminisms; Indigenous Feminisms; Gender and Race; Women of Color Feminism; Racialized Masculinities; Queer of Color Critique; Race, Gender, and Disability; Health Disparities; Science and Race.

1. Cover letter of 1-2 pages, addressed to Laura Lovett, Director of the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program. Include a description of your research interests and teaching experience.
2. Current CV, including a list of courses taught and schools at which they were taught.
3. Teaching Portfolio (12 pages max) which includes a statement of teaching philosophy and/or pedagogical practices, evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as student evaluations and/or model assignments, and an abbreviated syllabus that outlines a course description, learning goals, assessment strategies, and a sample module.
4. Diversity Statement of 1-2 pages, in which you share how your past, planned, or potential contributions or experiences relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion will advance the University of Pittsburgh’s commitment to inclusive excellence.
5. Contact information (full name, title, and email) for three persons able to provide confidential professional letters of recommendation, at least one of which will address teaching ability and experience. (We do not need the letters at this time.)
