The Department of Otolaryngology and the Pittsburgh Hearing Research Center (PHRC) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine invites applications for an Assistant/Associate/Professor full-time, tenure-stream position in hearing research. Faculty rank (Assistant, Associate, or Professor) will be determined by and commensurate with qualifications and experience: Assistant Professor requires 1-5 years of experience; Associate Professor requires 6-10 years; Professor requires 10+ years of experience.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD, MD/PhD or MD-equivalent degree in Neuroscience, Molecular/Cell Biology, Cognitive and Neural Systems, Computational Science, Communications Science, Bioengineering, or other similar Biological/Biomedical or Health Science related field, and will have research interests relevant to the hearing and hearing loss-related research. We are seeking an exceptional scientist to establish vigorous independent research programs and promote synergy between basic, translational, and clinical research. Candidates performing research related to human genetics in hearing loss, or human auditory perception and computational audition are especially encouraged to apply. A very generous start-up package is available. Building upon the success of the PHRC, the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh is in the process of establishing the Pittsburgh Hearing Institute. The co-location of neurotology, audiology, vestibular, and translational and basic hearing science research programs will facilitate a true bench-to-bedside approach toward our goal of understanding hearing and curing hearing loss, tinnitus, and related disorders.
The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
The faculty position is within the vibrant and highly interactive basic, translational and clinical neuroscience research community of the University of Pittsburgh, including the UPMC Vision Institute (http://www.upmc.com/services/eye), the University of Pittsburgh Brain Institute (http://www.braininstitute.pitt.edu/), the Center for Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh (http://www.cnup.pitt.edu), the Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative disorders (http://www.pind.pitt.edu) and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (http://www.upmc.com). Successful candidates will join an active and collaborative hearing research community with diverse colleagues across the University of Pittsburgh and the adjacent Carnegie Mellon University, whose research spans human clinical and behavioral research, auditory cognitive neuroscience, and systems, cellular and molecular neuroscience. This community is strengthened by NIH-supported training grants and certificate graduate programs (https://www.hearingandvision.pitt.edu) promoting graduate and postdoctoral training in hearing research.
