Summary

Barry University School of Law seeks Student Assistant, Circulation workers. This is a temporary, part-time position working up to 15 hours per week; hours may include day or nighttime, weekdays or weekends. Student Assistant, Circulation positions are hired for a variety of different jobs, including performing all Circulation Desk activities, maintaining photocopiers, filing, shelving, and completing special projects.


Essential Functions

  • Assists patrons at the Circulation Desk by checking Library materials in and out, including reserve materials; following and implementing the library visitor policy, asks everyone entering the library for student or state ID; maintains the floor count and the signin sheet, and providing other services as required. 

  • May be responsible for Circulation desk activity when full time staff is unavailable. 

  • Re-shelves library materials in Reserve Collection or the Library’s general collection on all three floors; participates in stack maintenance. 

  • Maintains photocopiers, including clearing paper jams, filling paper drawers; assists patrons in using copiers.

  • Performs general filing at the Law Library; checks that reports are ready to be filed; reports any problems to Circulation staff members. 

  • Assists in shifting the collection as needed. 


Qualifications/Requirements

  • Must be a Barry Law Student in good academic standing.
  • Must be service-oriented and have a helpful attitude and demeanor. 
  • Less than 12 months experience required.
  • Ability to analyze what patrons require from the Circulation Department or directs them to the other departments as required.
  • Contributes to assigned projects, asking questions as they arise.
  • Should be knowledgeable in use of Internet, particularly to access the School of Law’s internal web pages and online catalog.  Must learn to use circulation functions in the Innovative system.  Uses fax machine.
  • Must be pleasant and effective in answering telephone and forwarding calls to various staff members. 
  • Must loose leaf carefully with attention to detail.
  • Must learn and perform basic repair and maintenance functions for copiers in the Library.
  • Must communicate with patrons, Library staff, and all constituents effectively.
