Position Summary
The Staff Scientist will be primarily dedicated to supporting NIH-funded projects led by Jessica Mozersky, PhD. These projects focus on Alzheimer's disease, return of results that indicate risk of developing Alzheimer’s Disease, and evaluating the impact of payment on recruitment and retention to Alzheimer’s disease research. Dr. Mozersky’s research focuses on the ethical, legal, and social implications of genomics, return of results, Alzheimer’s disease, informed consent, qualitative data sharing, and recruitment and retention of underrepresented individuals. New grants are anticipated that will fall into these broad categories and the Staff Scientist will be expected to work on these projects going forward.
Assists in developing and conducting research projects, including study design, research protocols, data analysis, and documentation of study findings.
Department Summary
The Bioethics Research Center (BRC) is a unit of the Division of General and Medical Sciences in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. The BRC conducts original research on ethical, social, and professional issues in healthcare and health research. BRC faculty conduct both qualitative and quantitative social science research.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Following instructions and discussions with principal investigator, designs research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification and management of data.
  • Data collection, including qualitative data collection.
  • Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
  • Performs complex analysis of data collected and writes interpretative reports. Verifies the correctness of the data submitted and makes recommendations based on these analyses.
  • Documents research topics and prepares and submits papers based on research work to publications and committees for publication or presentation to peers.
  • Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with the execution of study protocols. Suggests technical or procedural improvements in research methods.
  • Conducts literature searches related to research project.
  • Additional tasks as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Public Health or a Social Science field strongly preferred (Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology or Health Care Ethics).
  • Analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret qualitative data and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner.
  • Computer literacy including the ability to use a variety of software packages to analyze data, including qualitative data analysis software (Dedoose or NVivo), as well as literature management software (Endnote) - or a demonstrated ability to learn such software quickly.


Required Qualifications

PhD or master’s degree with 4 years of experience in research lab operations; or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 9 years.

Salary Range
$47,000.00 - $85,200.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
