Job Overview

The Staff Scientist performs a variety of complex and semi-independent activities involved in designing and conducting research and implementation studies within the overall scope of research project(s).

They provide advanced operational and analytical support to the planning, development, and implementation of sponsored research projects.

Capable of independent work, the Staff Scientist leads research projects linked to systems neuroscience, preparing formal reports for both conference abstracts as well as peer review publications.

As a valued member of a multi-disciplinary team, they are necessarily flexible and capable of responding to rapidly evolving needs for the planning, development, and implementation of research projects.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator, the Staff Scientist provides leadership - and at-times, direction - to more junior research staff.

This position has been designated as On-Campus. Requirements and Qualifications

  • PhD in the Pharmacology, Physiology, Neuroscience or a related field
  • 5 to 7 years of work experience in a relevant field
  • Ability to undertake, and work independently on, complex research projects – specific proficiency with developing, executing, and implementing research protocols
  • Strong levels of skills in programming using Python and/or MATLAB languages
  • Prior experience with in vivo Ca2+ imaging, electrophysiology, and mouse behavior analysis
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team of investigators and research staff of varying experience levels and background
  • Ability to prioritize, focus and achieve results in a fast-paced and complex environment
  • Advanced organizational, interpersonal, management, oral and written communication
  • Capacity for ♦ performing independent work, including conducting experiments and performing data analysis of systems neuroscience experiments; ♦ adapting, developing and applying research methodologies; and ♦ developing and managing research projects with limited supervision; and ♦ drafting and writing project reports and peer review manuscripts
