Job Description

Provides assistance to research staff by collecting data, keeping records, conducting literature searches, technical research, analyzing data, and preparing reports with minimal supervision.   

Duties:

  • Conducts research in a community-based setting, to include but not limited to collection of data, specimens, and samples, and other research information from research participants in the field.
  • Participates in clinical research projects, including recruitment of and collecting data from patients and/or participants in a study.
  • Completes informed consent procedures and collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project(s), which could include database information and/or hard files.
  • Conducts data analyses, interprets data, draws conclusions, and discusses with principal investigator.
  • Meticulously follows study protocols, including keeping detailed logs of all research related projects or activities.
  • Maintains clear, concise, and consistent logs of reported issues and work performed.  
  • Conducts literature searches. 
  • Assists in preparing various reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content that may be submitted for publication.  
  • Conducts dietary biomarker tests and collects dietary recalls.
  • Collaborates with other researchers or colleagues.
  • Participates in meetings and presents research findings to fellow researchers and Principal Investigator.  
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position. 
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry, or Physical Science or related field AND:

  • 12 months research laboratory experience.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months equivalent experience in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree for a total of 60 months research experience. 

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of how to safely handle and dispose of biohazardous materials or chemicals following Federal, State, and University regulations and guidelines.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to collect data and keep records.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact with research participants and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Physical: Standing for prolonged periods. Manual dexterity. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Reaching, bending, and stooping.
  • Environmental: Laboratory Environment. Exposure to biohazardous materials, chemicals, odors, and/or carcinogens.

Department Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, or other closely related field.
  • 12 months research experience in a community-based setting.
  • Experience working with populations affected by food insecurity, limited health literacy and/or poverty.
  • This position will require regular travel to rural community sites in Oklahoma. Reliable transportation is required. Mileage will be reimbursed at the federal level.
  • Some job tasks will take place on evenings and weekends.
