Job-Specific Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Administration, the Staff II will provide general support to the Administrator, Chair, and Director of Undergraduate Studies. The Staff II processes confidential materials, supports the teaching staff, and acts as primary point of contact for students. Additional duties include the following:

  • General reception and office support, including ordering supplies, reserving classrooms, and providing computer support to faculty and staff
  • Maintain student records, student/faculty databases, and directory information
  • Coordinate admissions process for students and hiring process for lecturers; act as first point of contact for all applicants
  • Prepare Social Studies course catalog information
  • Update and maintain department website; manage weekly newsletter
  • Provide support for Social Studies 10: assist Course Director, order weekly catering, coordinate tutorial classrooms
  • Coordinate event planning and set-up for social functions and lectures
  • Edit and proofread handbooks and website
  • Prepare dossiers for faculty reviews and promotions
  • Assist with honors process
  • Manage social media accounts
  • Other responsibilities as required

Basic Qualifications

1+ years office experience


Additional Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor's degree preferred.
Strong MS Office skills and prior experience with database management.
Ability to manage complex and confidential information with discretion. Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and to take initiative with projects. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with faculty, staff, and students. Comfortable working in busy environment. Must work well independently and as part of a team. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong editing and proofreading skills. Prior experience with event planning a plus. Knowledge of various social media platforms preferred. Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro and Google Docs preferred.

Early evenings required at the beginning of the semester and for 3-4 events each semester. 

This position allows a small amount of flexibility for remote work but requires a significant on-campus presence during the academic year.
