What You Will Achieve

Obesity is a growing health and economic burden worldwide. It is risk factor for other co-morbidities including heart disease, stroke, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), certain types of cancer, and higher mortality risk from COVID-19 infection. The Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) is seeking a highly motivated non-PhD scientist with cell culture and molecular biology experience to support preclinical drug discovery efforts around obesity. The ideal candidate will be able to design and execute in vitro experiments, as well as analyze, interpret, and effectively communicate results. The candidate will work closely with their manager and other IMRU Pfizer scientists to support exploratory and portfolio efforts.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Perform cell culture experiments.
  • Conduct molecular biology experiments such as but not limited to transfection, gene expression analysis, immunostaining, ELISA and Western blotting.
  • Capable of following assay protocols and analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Compliance to laboratory safety and electronic notebook standards.
  • Work effectively with peers to support projects.
  • Identify and report any experimental problems, proactively troubleshoot causative factors, and implement necessary corrections following discussion with supervisor.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology or other related discipline with 3 to 5 years of lab experience in academia or in industry or a master's degree in biology, Pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology with 0+ years of experience
  • Familiarity with standard cell and molecular biology methods including but not limited to cell culture, siRNA and plasmid transfections, lentivirus preparation and transduction, immunoassays such as ELISAs and western blotting, and quantitative real-time PCR.
  • Ability to use appropriate software to perform data analysis.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of a team, strong motivation with a dedicated work ethic.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creative, self-motivated and the ability to work independently including analysis and troubleshooting of experimental results and reviewing literature to formulate new approaches.

Nice-to-Have

  • Hands-on rodent handling, dosing, and tissue collection experience.
  • Knowledge of metabolism and pharmacology.
  • Experience working in or collaborating with industry.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $64,600.00 to $107,600.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
