This position is a great opportunity for a motivated individual interested in gaining experience and technical expertise in the fields of stem cell biology, human disease modeling, and precision medicine. The position is in the Hawkins’ Laboratory in the Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM) and Boston University School of Medicine. The candidate would report directly to Dr. Andrew Berical, a physician-scientist in Dr. Hawkins’ laboratory.
Duties will include conducting supervised bench-top experiments using patient derived stem cells, gene editing, and performing in vitro functional testing of genetic lung diseases. Your time will primarily be spent performing experiments and you will work as part of a highly motivated, fun, and successful team in an outstanding environment!
Duties and Responsibilities: The candidate will work closely with lab members to support different research projects including testing of novel platforms and therapeutics for currently untreatable lung diseases. The techniques involve (but are not limited to):
- Stem cell culture, differentiation, and characterization
- Work with laboratory mice
- CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing
- Therapeutic gene delivery
This individual will also oversee ordering, purchasing, and maintaining lab supplies. Candidate motivation, organization skills, ability to work well with others, and willingness to learn novel lab techniques are key.
Required Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field is required with 0-12 months of related experience. Cell culture experience is desired but not required. Background in molecular biology and familiarity with routine laboratory tasks are highly desirable. The successful candidate will be a motivated person with careful attention to detail, excellent organizational and documentation skills.
