About the Opportunity

Northeastern University is looking for an innovative, creative and driven social media specialist to execute Northeastern’s organic social media strategy across all platforms, both emerging and established. Reporting to the Senior Social Media Manager, the role is integral to building upon Northeastern’s global brand presence by identifying opportunities for ahead-of-the-curve social media moments and executing ideas for graphics, videos and other styles of content that are native to platforms and connect directly with audiences. The Social Media Specialist will be responsible for understanding and connecting with Northeastern’s social media community, preparing, and posting organic content, monitoring socials for comments and helping to develop and maintain the content calendar. The Social Media Specialist should be an avid consumer of information on social media platforms and adept at finding patterns, trends and conversations happening within the Northeastern community and in society at large, with the ability to relate those trends back to the university’s social presence and brand goals. They will generate ideas for and execute campaigns that promote connection, push boundaries (but remain brand safe) and surprise and delight audiences and move at the speed of the internet. 

As social media never sleeps, the Social Media Specialist must be responsive, fast, thoughtful and creative at a moment's notice regardless of the time of day or day of the week. Crisis and opportunities don't and can't wait. After-hours work, including weekends, holidays and events is routinely required. The position is based on the Boston campus.

Provide the minimum education, experience, and skills required to perform the job successfully.

  • 2-3 years of experience creating content for brands on social media, consumer-focused experience preferred.
  • A demonstrated ability to maintain and increase social media engagement. 
  • Strong writing skills, with a deep understanding of the nuances of language and strong editorial judgment
  • Ability to interact with audiences online, answering questions and facilitating engagement.
  • Strong familiarity with all major and up-and-coming social media platforms
  • Shoot and edit video for various social media platforms, such as Meta, TikTok, and emerging platforms.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (including Illustrator, Premiere, Photoshop)
  • Ability to create visually appealing and on-brand graphics for all social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter (X), and TikTok.
  • Voracious social media consumer and a passion for discovering trends.
  • Experience with data and ability to use it to inform decisions, experience with Sprinklr a plus
  • Positive, energetic attitude and adaptability. Social media constantly changes, and you must be ready to change with it.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationship and partner across an organization effectively.
