Position Summary
Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine’s Working Forward initiative. As such, this position’s work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit’s business needs.
This position will serve as an Associate Clinical Research Coordinator within the Institute of Global Health and Infectious Diseases. The Associate Clinical Research Coordinator is responsible for the execution of clinical research protocols, including leading efforts in gathering, compiling, and reporting data for a variety of research studies.
This position will be primarily based in Asheville, North Carolina with duties at the Mission Hospital.
The Study Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the daily operations of the La Crosse Encephalitis in Western North Carolina study. This is a North Carolina Collaboratory-funded project that aims to collect critical data that will lay the foundation for future efforts to reduce disease transmission and improve the effectiveness of care for patients hospitalized with La Crosse encephalitis virus, a mosquito-borne virus endemic to western North Carolina.
Key activities for this position include 1) coordinate screening of participants, enrollment, and data collection 2) serve as liaison between the study team, research participants, collaborators, testing laboratories, and local public health agencies 3) schedule meetings among internal and external collaborators, 4) manage inventory and order additional supplies as needed, 5) ensure study protocols including the consent process are followed and updated as needed, 6) oversee data security and management (REDCap), and 7) prepare regular status reports. The Study Coordinator will be a member of our Vector-borne Disease Epidemiology, Ecology, and Response (VEER) Hub Research team, and will work with graduate students, medical students, laboratory technicians and assistants, and more team members to support various projects.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Must be able to use considerable judgement and skills in performing work assignments. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work and communicate with diverse populations effectively and professionally. Ability to work independently as well as function as part of a team. Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Comfort and skill at communicating with people from diverse backgrounds, including study staff, investigators, participants, study sponsors or their designees.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience working in clinical research environment.
Experience working in a Hospital/Clinic setting.
Experience developing research reports for study team members and study populations, preferably via REDCap.
Experience entering research information into a variety of databases and performing quality control of research records across databases (REDCap).
Experience Electronic Health Record systems.
Prior certification in Humans Subjects Research (i.e., CITI training) and Good Clinical Practice
