Position Summary/Description:


The School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a fixed-term Research Assistant Professor position.
The Research Assistant Professor will be involved in projects that assess the impact of child welfare policies at the state and local level. This individual will participate in the development, maintenance, and analysis of a set of longitudinal databases that tracks the experiences of children reported as victims of abuse and neglect as well as children who enter foster care. This individual also will develop, maintain, and analyze a set of longitudinal databases that track the experiences of families who receive benefits through North Carolina's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, Work First, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
We are seeking applicants with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently. Training and experience in conducting policy analysis is highly desirable. The preferred applicant will need to know how to present the findings from data analysis to a variety of audiences as well as be able to work with datasets from different systems to create longitudinal files.

Education and Experience:


Applicants should have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Applicants should have substantial experience with file transport protocol.
The successful applicant should have experience working with a team as well as working independently.
Applicants should have experience serving as a project manager.
Applicants should have a minimum of five years of experience of using the Unix operating system. Preferred applicants should also have five years of experience of using SAS in creating extremely large datasets with more than 1,000,000 observations as well as datasets with more than 2,000 variables.
Applicants should have in-depth knowledge of child welfare programs as well as income maintenance programs such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
