The Center for Infection and Immunity (CII) - one of the world's most advanced academic centers for research in disease surveillance, diagnosis and discovery is seeking a candidate for a Senior Technician position. The candidate will report to the Principal Investigator and apply experience and expertise in the application of molecular biological diagnostic techniques as part of the USAID PREDICT program. The candidate will set up and carry out fully planned experiments involving PCR, cDNA cloning, DNA and RNA extraction from tissue samples, preparation of templates for DNA sequencing, cell culture, tissue culture, perform serological and protein assays. S/he is expected to analyze data (genetic, statistical), design experiments and report findings to the principal investigator. S/he will assist in leading and training of other technicians and perform other related duties as assigned.  
Requires a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related science or equivalent in education, training and experience and at least 1.5 years of related experience.
The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.  
Training or experience in a laboratory environment and knowledge of lab safety. Proficiency in Molecular Biology and the application of molecular biological diagnostic techniques.  
 
A master's degree in epidemiology or public health is preferred, as are strong analytical and statistical skills and experience with python, R, or other coding languages. Experience in wet lab techniques (nucleic acid extractions, PCR, cloning, sequencing) required. Experience with genetic sequence analysis also required. Candidates with experience in viral surveillance and zoonotic disease research will be given preference.  
Set up and carry out fully planned experiments involving DNA and RNA extraction from tissue samples,PCR, cDNA cloning, preparation of templates for DNA sequencing, and protein expression - 70%
Analyze results, design experiments and report findings to the principal investigator - 20%
Assist in leading and training of other technicians - 5%
Perform other related duties as assigned - 5%
