Job Summary:

The Dr. Pieter Cullis Laboratory, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Faculty of Medicine, at the University of British Columbia will be looking to hire a Research Assistant/Technician 2 at 100% FTE to join the team.


Organizational Status:

The Research Assistant will report directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Pieter Cullis.


Work Performed:

  • Assisting with formulation of lipid nanoparticles and optimization of lipid nanoparticles for in vitro and in vivo systems.
  • Assisting with Physicochemical characterization of lipid nanoparticles LNPs using biophysical and analytical techniques.
  • Assisting with In vitro and in vivo testing of lipid nanoparticles.
  • Supporting senior researchers in preparation of manuscripts for publication and grant proposals.
  • Attending meetings and seminars.
  • Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.


Consequence of Error/Judgement:
Failure to maintain a high standard of work with consistent communication between team members and the supervisors will result in delays and quality of research output, which may impact the working conditions, reputation, and funding for the research group and UBC.


Supervision Received:
Works under general supervision in carrying out familiar phases of duties and responsibilities; receives instructions during orientation and on subsequent new assignments or changes in procedures.


Supervision Given:
May distribute work assignments to employees at lower classification levels and initiate new employees into routines, procedures and operation of equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous research experience in the biomedical field, with a focus on biomaterials and medical devices. High degree of motivation, enthusiasm, organization, and initiative. Ability to work independently and with other lab personnel. Effective oral and written communication.
