Description

The successful candidate will coordinate and conduct field research in northwest Arkansas, where CWD is highly prevalent and of significant management concern to agencies and landowners. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating and conducting field research that will involve capture of white-tailed deer using various capture techniques, immobilization of captured animals, GPS telemetry, capture and handling of neonates, collection of samples for diagnostic testing, monitoring of captured animals, organization of databases, and day to day operations of a field crew composed of graduate students and technicians. The candidate will serve as the point of contact for state and federal agency personnel within the study area, as well as private landowners, press, and others with questions or concerns about the field research. Likewise, the candidate will serve as the liaison between field research activities and cooperating investigators, which include multiple researchers in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia, the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study at the University of Georgia, the Prion Research Center at Colorado State University, and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. This project will also include assistance from numerous field technicians, and collaboration with multiple doctoral students. The Senior Research Associate will be involved in the development of scientific manuscripts resulting from the study with opportunities for co-authorship as appropriate. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact the Principal Investigator (Dr. Mike Chamberlain, [email protected]) and/or Cooperating Investigators at the University of Georgia (Drs. Gino D’Angelo, [email protected]; Richard Chandler, [email protected]) to discuss any aspects of the position or research project. Research Website https://ugadeerresearch.org/
