The Senior IT Professional I, under general direction, provides technical leadership for a unit-level project or operation, which relies on multiple technical fields. Provides technical oversight for the application of and compliance with the unit’s technical standards. Coordinates the technical activities of a project team. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years of related experience in server management and administration, web infrastructure support, and user support

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  •  Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in server and workstation lifecyle management to include deployment, endpoint configuration, and patching
  • Experience developing security standards, as well as auditing and remediation of endpoints
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-53

Responsibilities:

Lead IT/LAN Specialized Duties

Provides technical guidance to peers on the development and implementation of our computing infrastructure and applications. Helps coordinate the backup support and problem tracking and resolution. Develops specifications for large and complex purchases of workstation hardware and network server hardware. Develops complex system logic and configuration. Provides technical guidance for LAN administration, monitoring and maintaining system security, and for protecting and recovering data. Leads the design and development of systems software for multiple projects. Works independently or with vendor field engineers to resolve hardware problems. Plans and organizes the installation and maintenance of both critical and non-critical software and hardware. Deploy desktop and network printers and other hardware.

Lead IT Consulting Specialized Duties

Assists in strategic planning for computing and communication. Provides technical oversight and training to peers on installation, maintenance, and problem solving of division wide software solutions. Provides technical guidance to peers on the customer problem tracking process. Provides technical oversight to peers for training content provided to customers on the use applications and/or specialized hardware/software. Provides technical guidance to peers on the advice and education given to customers on computing security policies and procedures. Develops standards and procedures for the development and maintenance of printed and web based software application information for customer use. Provides technical oversight to peers for programming to include coding, debugging, and optimizing of user programs. Creates and maintains documentation for servers, software, and processes, as well as logical and physical infrastructure managed by the department. Serves as a liaison to University groups or committees.

Project Management

Collaborates with the project leader to develop work plan and time schedules for computing projects including outlining phases and identifying personnel and computing equipment requirements. Makes recommendations based on the evaluation of software products and programming languages for their applicability to the system and/or project. Ensures documentation of changes to systems software and the development of entries for a system’s support database.

Lead Database Administrator Specialized Duties

Plans, organizes, and controls the activities related to database systems in very complex, multi-platform environments. Makes recommendations based on the evaluation of software products and programming languages for their applicability to the system and/or project. Installs and tests database management systems and related systems.
