Position Description

This is an exciting opportunity to be an essential member of the educational technology team in the Academic Deans' Office at Harvard Kennedy School. Reporting to the Senior Director of Educational Technology / Public Leadership Credential, this position is responsible for delivery and support of educational technology services for HKS.

The incumbent is the primary provider of educational technologies to faculty and staff who support them in Degree Programs and Executive Education. Specifically, responsible for the operations and support of Canvas learning management system, key educational technologies for teaching, and other related services. Additionally, this person will research, test, when appropriate pilot, transition to steady state, and sunset legacy educational technologies. Through this work, the person will work closely with other HKS units, Harvard IT (HUIT), peers across the university, and vendors.

Position responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

  • Provides educational technology to Degree Programs and Executive Education. Serves as back-up for Public Leadership Credential (PLC) as needed.
  • Consults with faculty, teaching teams, program staff on teaching needs and ways in which ed tech might address those needs. Demonstrates technologies and their instructional potential. Provides training and support. Generates statistical reports and other metrics.
  • Coordinates with Public Leadership Credential (PLC), HKS IT, SLATE, Executive Education, and other units as appropriate.
  • Liaises with Harvard University IT (HUIT) Academic Technology. Engages with educational technology colleagues across the university and at peer institutions.
  • Researches best practices and trends in educational technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least five years related professional experience, ideally working with faculty and teaching teams in a college / university setting
  • Experienced provider of support for Canvas
  • Demonstrated service mindset
  • Proven professional experience researching platforms and tools to meet teaching and learning needs. Possesses understanding of and appreciation for multiple dimensions (e.g., IT security, data dependencies, user experience) that must be considered when evaluating technical solutions.
  • Experienced provider of support for Canvas, Poll Everywhere, Panopto, Teachly, and other educational technologies.
  • Experienced in conducting pilots from needs assessment to tools research to testing to delivering pilot to assessment; when warranted, sunsetting legacy technology and rolling out new technology.
  • Ability to work responsively with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to train and support others with varying levels of technical acumen.
  • Skilled in written and verbal communication, organization, documentation, presentation, training, project management, tier 1 and 2 support.
  • Experienced in both PC and Mac environments.
  • Experience with Service Now or similar ticketing system.
  • Experience with learning analytics a plus.

This is a hybrid position based on our campus in Cambridge, MA. Salary Range: $74,200 - $126,200
Note: Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.
