Senior Human Resources Generalist

The Marshall School of Business is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable collaborative, culture-oriented HR professional for the position of Senior Human Resources Generalist to join our dynamic team. The Senior Human Generalist will play a vital role in supporting our organization's HR operations and initiatives, and will be responsible for providing comprehensive HR services, including employee relations, talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, performance management, while partnering with the Human Resources Manager on HR policy development.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serves as the HR liaison to designated departments within the school.

  • Manages faculty contract business processes in collaboration with the Vice Dean’s Office and academic units.

  • Act as a trusted advisor and provide guidance to employees and management on various HR matters, including performance management, employee relations, and conflict resolution.

  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints, grievances, and disciplinary matters, ensuring fair and consistent outcomes.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and deliver HR programs and initiatives to support employee engagement, development, and retention.

  • Supports managers and the HR department in recruiting efforts, specifically: creates job descriptions, drafts, and assembles new position proposals/justifications for central administration review, and posts open positions for recruitment.

  • Provide guidance and support in the performance management process, including goal setting, performance appraisals, and employee development.

  • Assists managers in reorganizing their departments.

  • Coordinates with UCS’s central HR on various administrative issues, including background checks, payroll, compensation analyses, job classifications, and terminations.

  • Meets with new hires to complete employment and payroll paperwork.

  • Processes changes of employment in HRIS (Workday)

  • Provides general assistance to employees regarding leaves of absence, employment status,

  • Provides reports to Director and school leadership as required.

  • Conducts needs assessments of teams and departments and provides appropriate solutions (e.g., team building, coaching, OD, training) to improve performance, workflow and engagement.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.

  • 5 years directly related human resources generalist experience.

  • Strong knowledge of principles and practices of human resources administration.

  • Knowledge of human resources organizational development/workforce planning, recruitment, hiring, performance management, compensation administration, benefits, training and development, disciplinary actions, employee relations, affirmative action, disability, workers compensation, and information systems.

  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations.

  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communications and excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • 7 years human resources generalist experience in a university or similar setting.

  • One or more of the following certifications: PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP.

Salary Range

The annual base salary range for this position is $94,277.28 - $119,580.33. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
