Senior Associate Director, Financial Management

Reporting to the Assistant Dean and Director, Finance and Human Resources for the Marshall School of Business [School], the Senior Associate Director, Financial Management will serve as the financial manager with direct responsibility and oversight over the School’s financial reporting and compliance function. Areas of responsibility include monitoring, reviewing, and verifying accounting records for compliance and audit purposes over both the centralized and decentralized operations across the School. The position is also responsible for monitoring the School’s internal business processes, ensuring compliance with university and School policies and procedures, and staying current with USC’s financial systems. Will assess, develop, and provide training to financial staff within the School. The position is supported by and directly supervises a Financial Analyst and a Budget/Business Analyst.

The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the Assistant Dean in long-range strategic planning to build and maintain robust financial controls and financial data management systems. The incumbent works directly with the Assistant Dean in supporting specific needs related to the academic mission and in developing objectives and financial strategies to meet these needs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Supervising the staff of the financial reporting and compliance function for the School.
  • Developing and maintaining and adhoc reconciliation reports across all account types; expenditure, compensation, revenue, and more.
  • Preparation of the School’s P&L report.
  • Oversight of the School’s scholarship award, allocation, and reconciliation process.
  • Developing and maintaining systems and reports for School’s tuition reconciliation process.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the School’s unrestricted and restricted funds.
  • Preparing and processing Journal Vouchers (JVs).
  • Developing and maintaining critical reports for internal and external reporting.
  • Supervision of the faculty STARS system maintenance and reporting.
  • Application and Commitment Deposit Fee monitoring and waiver tracking.
  • Monitoring and approving requests for financial system access.
  • Oversight of School’s new account creation process and approvals.
  • Works closely with School’s research administrator to ensure reporting and compliance with contract and grant administration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong financial and budget management and reporting skills, preferably in a university setting.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational, collaborative, and interpersonal relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in addition to critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, handle multiple priorities, tasks, demands and time sensitive pressurized situations
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and related analytic tools
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment; and commitment to completing tasks on time and to the highest ethical and professional standards.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree Minimum Experience: 5 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Senior or lead bookkeeping/accounting experience with directly related college study. Thorough knowledge of established accounting principles, methods, practices and terminology used in financial/accounting and statistical recordkeeping work. Ability to train, evaluate and supervise the work of employees. Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and effective communications skills.
