The Assistant Director, IT position reports to Administrative Systems Management (ASM), the SAP Center of Excellence at Duke University and Health System. As part of ASM this position leads the team that provides system and business process support for Payroll and Timekeeping. This position serves as the team lead of the functional team supporting the SAP Payroll, API Timekeeping and custom-built SAP timekeeping. The position reports to the Associate VP, ASM.
Duties
- Manage the team which supports payroll and time functionality including resource allocation, priority setting, performance evaluations and planning for team member professional growth.
- Serve as the lead resource on various new payroll and time projects for the University and Health System. Duties include project management, requirements analysis, design specification development, R/3 system configuration, and implementation. Project management duties include leading meetings, developing project plans, leading design and business process change efforts, identifying security requirements, developing test plans, and overall team coordination.
- Oversee day to day production support for SAP Payroll including testing upgrades, resolving integration issues with the financial module of SAP, supporting key constituencies, and resolving system problems.
- Oversee day to day production support for API Healthcare time and attendance system including testing upgrades, supporting key constituencies and resolving system problems.
- Oversee integrations with ADP for W-2’s, quarterly and year end tax reporting.
- Collaborate closely with the HR/Benefits team lead to ensure successful implementation of HR/Benefits initiatives that impact employee pay.
- Serve as the Payroll team Business Warehouse resource. Duties include coordination with the BW lead resource for requirements analysis, data modeling, testing, security, integration with R/3 and query development and presentation.
- Perform other duties and special projects related to the duties described above and at the direction of the Associate Vice President.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
Experience
- A minimum of five years of experience in business operations or financial management, preferably in higher education or health care.
- Experience in configuring and implementing HR/Payroll modules in SAP (R/3, workflow and Business Warehouse) and Payroll Control Center.
- Knowledge of payroll tax reporting, multistate taxation and BSI tax software
- Prefer experience with third party timekeeping systems such as API Healthcare, Kronos, etc.
- Experience managing multiple projects/assignments, ability to work with a broad range of administrative, technical, and functional staff, and a broad understanding of University and Health System administration and operations are required.
- Experience managing a team, ability to effectively communicate, delegate, set priorities and problem solve.
