JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology division at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA is seeking a qualified, motivated Research Technologist 1 to join a talented research team performing  the laboratory work associated with CRISPR and gene editing experiments including (but not limited to): cell lines maintenance, generation of the molecular biology reagents (plasmids, guide RNA molecules etc) required for CRISPR genome editing, genetic manipulation of cell lines (transfection, flow cytometry sorting, validation by genomic sequencing and western blot).  We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and ambitious to learn. Applicant needs to be detail oriented and follow SOPs and experimental plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Execution of experiments, data analysis, record keeping, ordering lab supplies, preparing IACUC protocols, etc.

  • Generate Patient Derived Xenografts, bone marrow and spleen cell isolation

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and certifications

  • Maintain inventory of raw materials, buffers, and reagents

  • Handle breeding colony

  • Perform common assay like Western Blot, and proliferation 

  • Maintain cell culture

  • Participate in troubleshooting of processes

  • Complete projects by assisting project team; attend and participate in team, department, and all-hands meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) or Masters in related science field required

  • Hands on experience with animal husbandry, breeding, drug administration (IP, IV, SC, IM, IF, oral gavage), necropsy, bleeding, data collection, and interacting with veterinary staff in animal facility  

  • Western Blot, ELISA, ICC/IHC, and Flow cytometry transfection

  • Strong knowledge of multicolor flow and data analysis

  • Knowledge of primary cell culture techniques and database, cytotoxicity assay, colony formation assay, drug combination studies and analysis.

  • Must be willing to work occasional weekends, and holidays

This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus 1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

The following clearances must be successfully completed for this position: 

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check 
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History- 
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
