Research Technician 3 to assist and support scientific investigation to study the suppression mechanisms of regulatory T cells as directed in the Department of Department of Neurology, independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of molecular, cellular, biological and in vivo research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures, flow cytometry, transfection; ip, iv, sc injections, blood and organ collection from euthanized animals, weight and disease monitoring; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures; performs routine procedures on lab animals; records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed; monitors the animal colony and performs genotyping procedures for maintaining it.
Minimum Education and Skills/Experience Required/Desired
Bachelor’s degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Requires successful completion of a background check. Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
