Research Support Specialist

 

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience with research activities.

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in relevant fields to human subjects research: e.g., Psychology, Cognitive Science. Experience with human subjects research, such as MRI, personality, or mental health. Research or clinical practice experience with children or adolescents, including those with mental health conditions. Experience with customer service or hospitality. Experience working in a hospital or medical center setting. Experience with preparation of regulatory materials (e.g., IRB, grant progress reports). Experience with purchasing, and/or budget management and reconciliation.

Brief description of duties:
The Research Support Specialist (RSS) will coordinate studies of adolescent mental health and development including recruiting/screening of study participants and completing study procedures with participants (laboratory tasks, MRI, EEG, diagnostic interviews, etc.). The RSS will directly interact with study participants (some of whom have a substance use disorder or other psychiatric illnesses), participant collaterals (parents), as well as research and clinical personnel (principal investigators, MDs, MRI scanner technicians, undergraduate volunteers, etc.). The RSS will set up and utilize a computer and other specialized research equipment. The RSS will also maintain the integrity of collected data in an electronic database and provide reports to the PI as needed, update the study protocol documents when required, manage data collection forms, and ensure compliance with all Institutional Review Board policies. The successful incumbent must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills. They will also have a passion for research and a dedication to complying with all applicable regulatory requirements. 

Duties:

  • Recruit, screen, and schedule research participants.
  • Assist in managing volunteer undergraduate research assistants.
  • Conduct onsite study procedures with adolescents and parents.
  • Maintain study charts for ensuring IRB compliance.
  • Maintain collected data in an electronic database.
  • Help maintain a federal funded study budget with respect to participant payments, receipt reconciliation, Principal Investigator travel, and ordering study supplies.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
