ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The National Synchrotron Light Source-II (NSLS-II) at Brookhaven National Laboratory is seeking exceptional candidates for The Data Science and Systems Integration (DSSI) Program . This role resides in the Data Engineering group, within DSSI, and it will provide opportunities to collaborate with other group and the Beamline Programs. The successful candidate will configure and support a growing number of advanced storage appliances, data services, and applications which support getting synchrotron data to scientists in a useful form, for both scientific data analysis and in-the-loop experiment automation. The successful candidate will have regular opportunities to work collaboratively on targeted projects that advance NSLS-II capabilities across the hardware and software stack.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively on storage- and data-oriented projects to develop new capabilities at NSLS-II.
  • Play a role in defining the technical aspects of NSLS-II's data lifecycle management strategy.
  • Play a role in engineering the platform of data systems in the next generation of beamlines being designed and constructed at NSLS-II.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelors in Information Systems Engineer or related field
  • A minimum of 8 years of full-time relevant experience
  • Experience managing and configuring RHEL 8 operating systems
  • Experience using Ansible for Configuration Management
  • Experience managing a NetApp storage appliance
  • Experience with containerized and virtualized infrastructure, e.g. Docker, VMWare
  • Experience scripting in Python
  • Experience with software collaboration tools, e.g. Git
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a team environment in a deeply collaborative way

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience managing Windows and Mac operating systems
  • Experience using RedHat Satellite for provisioning
  • Experience using Ansible Automation Platform (AAP)
  • Experience with CephFS/S3
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $105,500 - $176.000 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
