Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): 
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in biology or a related field of science. Experience with research activities which may include cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, and/or molecular biology (student experience may be considered).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in molecular biology techniques which may include PCR, cell culture, mouse husbandry, sectioning for IF, IHC and ISH, and/or Western blotting. Experience with CRISPR/Cas9, gene editing and/or next-generation sequencing. Experience with Excel, Photoshop and/or ImageJ.
Brief Description of Duties:
 
We are seeking a highly self-motivated individual with a positive attitude for a Researcher Support Specialist position to join our group studying Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Department of Medicine. This is a laboratory-based position focused on the study of transcriptional regulation and signaling mechanisms in PKD. The successful incumbent will work closely with a research faculty and assist experiments in research projects.
The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Duties:

  • Gene Editing:
    • Using CRISPR/Cas9 for genome engineering of cell lines, generation of CRISPR/Cas9 gene targeting reagents, selection of edited cell lines by single cell cloning and flow cytometry, PCR and DNA sequencing for validation of edited cell lines.
  • Molecular Biology:
    • Molecular cloning, PCR, qRT-PCR, plasmid extraction and DNA sequencing.
    • Assist in the generation of next-generation sequencing libraries for ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Cut&Run and HiChIP experiments.
  • Tissue Culture:
    • Maintenance of cell lines and preparation of tissue culture reagents.
    • Seeding of experimental plates for plasmid transfection and lentivirus & AAV transduction.
    • Harvest cell lysates for DNA, RNA and protein analysis.
  • Mouse Colony Management:
    • Maintenance and breeding of transgenic mice that include weaning, sexing and breeding of mice, genotyping and record keeping of mice produced for the lab.
    • Prepare harvested organs and tissues for biochemical and histological analysis.
    • Assist with surgical procedures for embryonic kidney organ isolation and ex vivo culture.
    • Responsible for drug preparation and administration, when necessary.
  • Data Analysis:
    • Prepare written and graphical descriptions of results to discuss with PIs.
    • Review scientific literature and technical documents.
    • Collaborate with faculty and postdocs in the lab regarding problem solving and data analysis.
    • Present routine summary reports on research protocols to faculty and postdocs.
    • Troubleshoot methods and techniques for potential improved outcomes.
    • Use R for statistical analysis and graph plotting.
  • Other duties as assigned.
