Deadline: 23 Apr 2024

As a UW employee, you have a unique opportunity to change lives on our campuses, in our state and around the world. UW employees offer their boundless energy, creative problem solving skills and dedication to build stronger minds and a healthier world.

UW faculty and staff also enjoy outstanding benefits, professional growth opportunities and unique resources in an environment noted for diversity, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits and natural beauty.

The Center for Experimental Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics (CENPA) has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 2.

CENPA is a fertile environment for experimental nuclear physics in the area of Fundamental Symmetries and Neutrinos, in the search for physics beyond the Standard Model.  A highly sensitive test of the weak interaction runs locally in our lab using sources of He-6 and Ne-19 radioactive ions made using beams from our Van de Graaff (VdG) accelerator.  The VdG is also used in Rutherford Backscattering experiments to test state-of-the-art silicon sensors for the PIONEER experiment, and to create high-energy gamma rays for tests of calorimeter crystals.  Van de Graaff operations provide opportunities for training young scientists and the machine is used as part of a Master’s Degree class on nuclear physics.

Many experiments at CENPA are in presently in a development phase, including Project 8, LEGEND, He6-CRES, PIONEER, DAMIC, and Selena. The candidate may develop activities within those experiments, as opportunities and needs arise.
