Department of Medicine: Pulmonary has an outstanding opportunity for Research Scientist/Engineer 3.

Research area:  Lung injury and repair, endothelial biology, stromal cell biology, epithelial biology

Funding sponsors:  NIH, private foundations and other federal sponsors

The University of Washington's Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine is seeking a Research Scientist 3 (.6 FTE) based at the UW South Lake Union Research Campus. 

Working under the general direction of two principal investigators, the Research Scientist 3 will use advanced laboratory techniques to conduct extramurally funded research with the goal of understanding how lung interstitial stromal cells function as sentinels to detect injury and promote inflammation and vascular permeability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Experimental procedures and management (90%)
• Develop new cell lines employing transfection/transduction techniques to knock-down, delete or over-express proteins.
• Determine effects of mutant proteins on cellular function using protein and RNA-based assays.
• Perform co-culture assays, immunoprecipitation, hplc and immunoassays.
• Perform cloning and cell transduction.
• Run western blots and RT-PCR.

Develop new aims and proposal (10%)
• Contribute to protocol development and updates.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in biology or related field and four years of relevant experience,
OR
Equivalent combination of education/experience

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED:

• Experience with tissue culture/sterile technique and general molecular immunology methods.
