The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology has an outstanding opportunity open for a Temporary , Full-Time<_i> Research Scientist/Engineer 1.
This position involves studying the biomarkers of diseases through identifying and quantifying ultrastructural changes related to diseases.
The position’s major duties and responsibilities:
• electron microscopy (40%)
• morphometry (30%)
• Specimen processing (15%)
• cytospin assay (10%)
• cell culture (5%)
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field AND One (1) year of experience OR a combination of education and experience.
Specific knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job satisfactorily include:
• Microscopy techniques
o light, immunofluorescence, or confocal microscopy.
• Histology techniques
o tissue sections, staining.
• Basic computer skills
o MS word, Excel, Adobe Photoshop.
• Molecular biology techniques such as:
o DNA isolation/manipulation, PCR, sequencing, electrophoresis. Western blot, ELISA, cloning, expression of recombinant proteins.
• Good sterile technique and the ability to perform tissue culture techniques and maintain cultures.
• Ability to prepare reagents, manage data and keep a very detailed notebook.
• A high level of motivation, good organizational skills and the ability to work as a member of a team.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Basic laboratory skills.
• Basic math skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Electron microscopy skills.
• Light microscopy skills.
• Immunofluorescence microscopy.
• Adobe Photoshop.
Working Conditions:
• Exposure to chemicals and hazardous material and biological specimens.
