 PROJECT MANAGER POSITION

The Department of Neurology at Duke University School of Medicine is hiring a project manager for a large highly collaborative research effort that spans institutions and disciplines. This exciting new team science effort aims to identify circuit mechanisms that contribute to, or protect against, dopamine neuron demise in Parkinson’s disease. Core project leaders bring expertise and innovation in synapses, basal ganglia, astrocytes, neuromodulators and state-of-the-art human cell organoid and mouse modeling.

Successful candidates will have a PhD, leadership skills to communicate across and organize scientific teams, dedication to fostering an inclusive and antiracist environment, and a sophisticated understanding of cutting-edge molecular cellular techniques.

The project manager will be in charge of:

  • Facilitating communication and organizing across team members in 6 labs/ 2 institutions
  • Communicating with funding agency
  • Serving as communication liaison to other interested parties including institutional, public and patient groups
  • Preparing research progress documents
  • Developing and disseminating protocols
  • Ensuring compliance and other necessary documentation is completed
  • Ensuring data provenance and data curation standards are being met
  • Attending research-in-progress team meetings and an annual offsite meeting held by funder
  • Screening, hiring and on-boarding new personnel
  • As relevant, training new personnel
  • Overseeing team members performing outcome analyses that involve immunohistochemistry and single cell RNA sequencing.
  • Managing staff responsible for mouse genetic lines colony management and genotyping.
  • Participating in scientific project development, interpretation and manuscript writing/editing.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

Bachelors degree in the biological or health sciences.


Experience

Minimum of four years of experience working in research laboratories. Must have a minimum of two years of experience performing work specific to the position. A Master's degree in biological or health sciences may substitute for two years of required experience. A PhD biological or health sciences may substitute for five years of required experience.
