Position Overview

The Life Span Institute/Bureau of Child Research is hiring a Research Project Coordinator, starting immediately, to coordinate implementation of the newly-funded Working Healthy Project.  The purpose of this contract with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is to Increase awareness of the Working Healthy Program by creating a variety of print, digital, and video materials using person-first and plain language.

The person in this position will be responsible for working with KDHE, the LSI videographer, translation services, and other entities as appropriate and ensuring that all activities are well-coordinated and are completed according to an established work plan. They will also serve as the primary liaison with established program partners and collaborators.


Job Description

50% - Develop, write, and field test printed, digital, and other materials, working with project partners to ensure plain language is used.
20% - Provide overall day-to-day coordination of project activities to ensure timely completion. 

10% - Work with partners to provide materials in alternate formats/Spanish translation as needed.

10% - Serve as the project's liaison and maintain regular communication with research partners through email, conference calls, and in-person meetings. 

10% - Schedule meetings, distribute agendas, maintain meeting minutes and track completion of assigned tasks. 


Position Requirements

  • This position is an estimated 30 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, Education, Special Education, Social Work or related field.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) as evidenced by application materials.
  • Two years of experience working with teams on research studies, as documented by application materials.
  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as with online technologies, as documented by resume and cover letter of application. 
  • Experience with medicaid as evidenced by application materials.
  • Three years of experience working on federally or state-funded grant programs.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills as evidenced by application materials and work history.
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively, as documented by references.
  • Experience writing in plain language
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including people with disabilities and those from racial and ethnic minorities. 
  • A passion for improving community participation of people with disabilities.
