The Department of Neurosciences seeks to fill a new Research Facility Director Position to oversee operations within the Preclinical Core of the Center for Brain Recovery and Repair.  The Preclinical Core provides recourses and support for multiple investigators seeking to integrate interdisciplinary approaches to assess brain plasticity and repair in rodent models of neurological disorders. This position will be under the direct supervision of the Faculty Core Director, but will involve interacting with multiple research labs utilizing the Preclinical Core Facility.  Duties of this position include (but not limited to a) provides training and service for the use of 19 pieces of instrumentation for behavioral, optical and histological equipment b) creates, maintains, and implements protocols for training and services c) oversight and upkeep of instrumentation, lab animals, and SOPs for core utilization d) manages technical staff and student core users. 
The Research Facility Director will collaborate with the CBRR Executive Committee to provide guidance and strategic support for core research projects and review projects for pilot funding from CBRR, establish MOUs for core use, oversee scheduling, billing and tracking core utilization. The Research Facility Director will also be responsible for coordination of compliance, including EHOS, IACUC, and NIH funding standards. The Research Facility Director will contribute to annual reports and grant applications pertaining to the Preclinical Core.  In addition, the Research Facility Director will spread awareness through local user workshops and promotion of the core at national conferences.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Psychology, or Health Sciences field
  • Ten years or more of experience working in a pre-clinical laboratory research setting
  • Experience in animal models of traumatic brain injury
  • Authorship on multiple scientific publications related to brain injury and repair
  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data
  • Evidence of managerial skills, particularly managing a multi-PI core facility such as the Preclinical Core
  • Experience with iLABS scheduling, billing and invoicing
  • Knowledge of behavioral neuroscience assays
  • Experience with the following techniques: Immunohistochemistry, laser speckle imaging, microscopy including high throughput slide scanning and image analysis software (Imaris, HALO).
  • Experience with data management
  • Strong interpersonal skills
