The Conflict of Interest/Responsible Conduct of Research office is seeking a Research Compliance Coordinator. This position will be responsible for providing assistance in research administration compliance, including export controls, visiting scholar reviews, and program coordination. We seek to hire a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in research compliance related area, export controls, research administration, foreign influence, research security and/or compliance monitoring or related area. The ideal candidate should have three years of supervisory or project management experience, along with a background in export controls within a higher education environment. They should have exceptional organizational skills, effectively prioritizing and managing a substantial workload under pressure while addressing competing demands. Additionally, possessing an advanced degree, law degree, and/or certifications in EAR/ITAR is highly desirable. Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of experience in research compliance related area, export controls, research administration, foreign influence, research security and/or compliance monitoring or related area.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of Federal and University regulations pertaining to export control regulations, foreign influence, research security, and/or experience in research administration. 

  • Requires tact and diplomacy and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Requires strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be detail oriented.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. 

  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree/law degree or legal experience.

  • Two years of related experience in research compliance related area, export controls, research administration, foreign influence, research security and/or compliance monitoring.  

  • Experience working with database and spreadsheet software.

  • EAR and/or ITAR certifications.

Essential Duties/Tasks:

  • Research Security - Coordinates with Executive Director and/or delegate in all matters related to potential undue foreign influence. Assists with research security reviews and implements and monitors any mitigation measures in compliance with NSPM-33; CHIPS and Science Act, and any other new Federal requirements; provides comprehensive guidance to stakeholders regarding undue foreign influence and research security. Monitors and stays abreast of changes to Federal regulations and guidelines pertaining to research security. Coordinates with Executive Director and/or delegate to develop policies and guidelines, including developing or modifying SOPs and office processes.  Updates and maintains online training resources and other materials and program websites pertaining to research security.  Assists with reviews of faculty and staff activities for compliance with University, state, and federal export control requirements related to proposals, grants, contracts, sponsored and non-sponsored research agreements, international shipping, and any other export control related activity.  

  • Export Controls Administration - Assists with reviews of faculty and staff activities for compliance with University, state, and federal export control requirements related to proposals, grants, contracts, sponsored and non-sponsored research agreements, international shipping, international travel, and any other export control related activity.  Assists with monitoring required export control training.  In coordination with the Executive Director and/or delegate, assists with Technology Control Plans and related export exemptions/exceptions.  Works with investigators and staff to maintain export control compliance with regulatory standards. Works with faculty and staff to ensure that any export of University information or items outside of the U.S. comply with University, state, and federal export control requirements. Assists with export control classifications, requesting export licenses, and filing paperwork.  Stays up to date with export control laws, regulations, and sanctions, and provide updates as necessary.

  • Program Administration - In coordination with Executive Director and/or delegate, develops, implements and updates policies and procedures relating to all applicable program areas. Coordinates with existing program staff to maintain electronic and paper files ensuring all are up-to-date and complete.  Assists staff in the development of training materials and conducts regulatory training as needed. Updates and maintains online training resources and other materials and program websites. Serves as a liaison between the programs and the research community as appropriate. Consults and advises faculty, staff, and students in the preparation of required documents based on knowledge of guidelines, rules and Federal regulations.
