Research Associate - Topology

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mathematics or a closely related field.  Three years of research experience. 

Preferred Qualifications: 
3- 5 years of research experience.  Research expertise in low-dimensional topology, including gauge theory, Floer homology, combinatorial invariants.  Ability to interact with research groups in related fields, such as symplectic topology.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Research Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the area of Topology within the department of Mathematics . The incumbent will independently and/or with colleagues conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

●     Carry out independent and/or teach research in the field of mathematics in the existence of metrics of prescribed scalar curvature. Will design and develop research experiments to achieve research goals.   

●     Analyze and evaluate data, including periodical literature utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data. May attend conferences and seminars. Speaker at departmental seminars.

●     Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the Mathematics department. 

●     Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
