About the Opportunity
We are seeking a research associate to support research focused on cancer vaccine development and the design of tools to study hypoxia (low oxygen) in the tumor microenvironment. The research associate will be working directly with a postdoctoral fellow and graduate students in the Laboratory for Advanced and Multifunctional Polymeric (LAMP) Biomaterials lead by Professor Sidi A. Bencherif in the Chemical Engineering Department at Northeastern University in Boston. This is an exciting opportunity for scientists looking to gain laboratory experience in cancer research and may serve as a steppingstone for individuals looking to pursue graduate school, medical school, a career in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, etc.
About the lab : We work at the interface of polymer science, bioengineering, and immunology to detect, treat, or prevent disease through the design of novel immunologically active biomaterials. Our work involves cells and animal models, and incorporates tools from chemistry, engineering, and immunology. Our laboratory values diversity and expects all lab members to foster a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Execute protocols as directed by team members, including bioconjugation, colorimetric assays, Western blot, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, etc.
  • Prepares and maintains in vitro mammalian cell cultures
  • Assist in vaccine development (biomaterials characterization, animal handling, etc.)
  • Reports results and communicates regularly with team members
  • Support maintenance of laboratory inventory, ordering, safety procedures, and equipment
  • Attend weekly laboratory meetings

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in science, including but not limited to Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, etc.
  • Minimum of 1 year of wet laboratory experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of scientific principles, research design, and research protocols
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment
  • Ability to learn new skills with an appropriate amount of training
