About the Department

Job Overview

A full time Research Associate staff position is available in the Genomics, Epigenomics and Sequencing (GES) Core (Director: Xiang Zhang) at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The GES Core is one of the best equipped laboratories in the College using the most advanced technologies for next generation sequencing, single cell sequencing, and many other services/collaborations in genetics and epigenetics. This high volume, high impact laboratory is expected to generate over one million dollars in revenue this year while supporting research to understand a full spectrum of biological processes and human diseases. Staff in the Core are paid above the average salary, have opportunities to learn innovative technologies, operate the latest instruments for biomedical research, and attend national professional meetings. We are looking for a qualified Research Assistants/Associates to expand our operations.


Essential Functions

Perform experiments and records data:

  • Isolate DNA and RNA.
  • DNA and RNA QC analysis.
  • The next generation sequencing and related experiments.
  • Single cell sequencing and related experiments.
  • PCR, real-time qPCR and data analysis.
  • Assist to develop new techniques and services.
  • Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data.  

 

Maintain instruments and the core facility in good condition:

  • Detail oriented, excellent record keeping abilities and organizational skills.
  • Order and receive supplies, receive, and ship samples, and answer phones.
  • Perform other experiments as deemed necessary.  
  • Perform related duties based on the Core's need.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree required in a related field.


Required Experience
  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs. 

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Bachelor’s Degree in biology, chemistry, or related fields.
  • Initiative, good technical skills, productivity and personal organization, and work in a customer-focused environment.
  • Maintain well-organized experiment records and always keep the core facility clean and clear. Recent graduates are welcome to apply as extensive training will be provided.
