Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Assistant for the Psychology Department within the School of Arts and Sciences.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Conducts research studying the neural basis of visual behaviors and how they are disrupted in disease.
  • Works closely with Dr. Parker to manage a mouse colony, perform experiments, and manage laboratory operations and compliance.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or related field. or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with mouse handling and behavior, colony management, and histology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Equipment Utilized
  • Mouse cages and behavioral apparatus, computers, micropipettes and other standard biology lab equipment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Repetitive tasks (pipetting, repeatedly lifting and placing behavioral apparatus), minimal low-weight lifting, extended periods of sitting and/or standing.
  • Fully in-person in a ~1200 sq. ft. lab with ~6 other individuals, overseen by the principal investigator.
  • The lab utilizes mice as a research model.
  • A separate shared office is available with desk and basic amenities (refrigerator, microwave, water cooler).
