Job Description
General Description:
This position will support and work closely with the faculty, students and staff in the veterinary technology department. to ensure that all labs are set up to be successful, and all animals are properly cared for. This position is vital to the operation of the animal hospital and the academic LVT program. This position will work on relief basis during the semester when animals are on the premises.
Duties and Tasks:
  • Assist instructors with on-campus, on-line, and field trip lab set-up and break-down.
  • Assist in supervising students with their lab skills during labs and patient care shifts.
  • Provide husbandry and nursing care to animals.
  • Maintain facility equipment and keep lab rooms orderly.
  • Maintain medical records for animals.
  • Assist with admitting and discharging shelter patients.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA, VCCS, AVMA, USDA, DEA, and VA Board of Veterinary Medicine
  • Assist with any other duties as assigned
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Minimum Work Experience:
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician with valid/active Virginia License
  • Clinical experience

  • Professional licensing as a credentialed technician from a different state and eligible to obtain a VA state license as a LVT within 30 days of hire.
